The environment: Bad Bertrich

Bad Bertrich is a small town which lies idyllically, near the Mossel valley and the Maaren valley, in the valley of Uessbach. It is a town where many tourists come to pass their summer vacation due to the presence of the nationally known salt water well and spa's. These spa's are the only in whole Germany. The power of these spa's were already known by the roman. The archbishop Clemens Wenzeslaus had routes constructed in this town, gave credits en made construction increase in Bad Bertrich. On his command the Schlösschen was build which nowadays is spa.

In 1903, a plaque was discovered on a depth of 25 m within the middle a hole. Probably this was the location where the romans in their days installed their spa. Thanks to ancient documents the source of the spa was found. When they finally found the source water splashed out with a sub natural power. Since that day Bad Bertrich is known for it's spa's.

The nature around Bad Bertrich is perfect for promenading. 70 km of walk paths were installed all around Bad Bertrich and its valley. One of the most known promenades is the one of Falkenlay (414m), this is an old volcano cone with a steep rock wall. An other nature phenomenon are the Elfengrotte with the Käsekeller, these are 9  meter long and hollowed in basalt with beautiful stalactites and look like cheeses that have been pilled up. Many tourists find every year their path to these special places.
